NATURE'S EMBRACE

Josephine Wall (born May 1947 in Farnham, Surrey) is a popular English fantasy artist and sculptor.

Educated at Farnham and Parkstone (Dorset) grammar schools, she studied fine art at Bournemouth College and worked at Poole Pottery as a designer and painter of Delphis Ware.[1] Her pottery figures include characters from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and mythological creatures. Pieces of this work now feature in a book on the history of Poole Pottery.

Her paintings are mainly influenced and inspired by Arthur Rackham, with lesser influences from surrealist artists such as Magritte and Dalí, and the romanticism of the pre-Raphaelites.

A number of her works were exhibited in Teheran and Tokyo during 1974 and her first solo exhibition took place the following year in Swindon. Josephine and her paintings were the subject of a special feature on Southern Television in 1990. Following a visit to the Spring Fair in Birmingham in 1993 she signed contracts with firms in Britain and Switzerland to publish her work as prints, posters and cards for worldwide distribution. Her originals and limited edition prints by are often sold through Courtenay's Fine Art and Courtyard of Romance.

In addition to a range of Limited Edition Prints, Josephine Wall continues to work with her exclusive licensing agents Art Impressions in California (Art Impressions Inc. www.artimpressionsinc.com) who began licensing her work around the world in 1996. They are responsible for finding the contacts and setting up licensing deals. Apparently there is a rush to see who will get new images as they appear! It has been used for greeting cards, calendars, posters, stained glass, craft transfers (“T” shirts), journals, stationery, cheques and cheque covers, mugs, magnets, suncatchers, treasure boxes, wall murals, scrapbook paper sets, fabric squares, figurines, and puzzles.

From childhood Josephine has had a passion for light and colour, fantasy and visual story telling.

The life of a painter was clearly her destiny! Enchanting and detailed images flow freely from her imagination in an endless cascade of ideas.

Her first employment after leaving Art College was at Poole Pottery, where she painted the dynamic and boldly coloured designs of the now famous Delphis ware – very collectable and realising high prices at specialist auctions.

In addition to her main love of painting, she directs her creative energies into pottery figures, sculpture and reproduction stained glass panels. She has even customised items of clothing.

She lives contentedly with her husband at Wisteria Cottage' where she works in a purpose built attic studio. The walls are covered with a huge wisteria, cascading gorgeous flowers - hand painted of course. Josephine is convinced that working under the pyramid shaped roof is a source of inspirational vibes, aiding her creativity! The rest of the cottage also displays her artistic nature, a woodland scene and butterflies in the kitchen, flowers and birds on the furniture and even more wisteria on the glass doors in the living room. Even the garden doesn’t escape her touch, as she likes nothing better than to spend time designing unusual features and creating an abundance of colour, with a slight bias towards a Victorian style.

She has three children ( two sons & one Daughter ) and since marrying Bob also has two Step-Daughters. At this time Josephine & Bob have 10 Grandchildren – their ages ranging from a few months to 19 years old, some of whom are already showing signs of an artistic tendency.

Much of the inspiration for her mystical images comes from her close observation of nature and her interest in its preservation. Though she often strives to impart a message in her scenes, she also hopes to inspire in her audience a personal journey into the magical world of their own imagination.

Nature's Embrace

On a magical twilight night, high above the golden moonlit landscape, two trees embrace in a demonstration of perfect love. Their roots entwined, and birds singing joyfully in their branches, they give us all a lesson on how we should treat our precious earth. If only we could all embrace each other in such perfect harmony..!!

Kiss of Life

As the handsome Prince wanders through the enchanted garden, he comes upon a fountain and is drawn to the beauty of the statue of a young maiden. Without knowing why, he plants a tender kiss upon her hand, and to his amazement, and joy (as if a spell is broken), she slowly comes to life, and the cold stone is transformed into warm flesh. He knows he has found his one true love. Fairytales can come true.!

Butterfly Tree

Deep in the heart of the countryside two moss maidens look on in awe as a miracle of creation takes place. The spirit of the tree watches as her leafy offspring take flight. Each golden leaf transforms into a beautiful butterfly as it is shaken gently from the boughs.Woodland fairies seize the moment to soar gracefully over the countryside nestled safely in the delicate wings.

Light of the Rose

Floating in a star lit sky, a rose fairy emerges from her enchanted land to peep down upon a sleeping world. She comes bearing the precious gifts of peace and light.
